Mid-century modernist Charley Harper (American,1922-2007), raised on a farm, embodied an ambivalence towards foxes. As a boy he was told to keep an eye on the henhouse, but he preferred to be out in the fields near the foxes' dens--drawing foxes, not shooting them.
